No matter which cultural setting you’re in, communication is key to effective work and ministry. The Department of Applied Linguistics & TESOL (ALT) seeks to equip students to be good communicators across cultural barriers. Whether your ultimate goal is to teach English, study linguistics, or translate the Bible into a new language, Cook’s ALT department will give you the skills you need to be a competent cultural communicator.
The Department of Applied Linguistics and TESOL focuses on addressing language-related problems and using language to solve a variety of human problems for the sake of God's redeeming work among all peoples. We equip Christian professionals in language-related fields to serve with integrity. All ALT programs are premised on the values of professional preparation, contextual sensitivity, cultural appropriateness, and ethical service.
The ALT department also sponsors the new International Journal of Christianity and English Language Teaching.
