The Cook School of Intercultural Studies equips students to communicate, live and work successfully in culturally diverse societies through applied programs in missiology, intercultural studies, linguistics and education. Our goal is to train individuals so that they can more effectively impact the world for Jesus Christ.
Department of Anthropology, Intercultural Education and Missiology (AIM)
The objective of the AIM department is to:
- Prepare globally concerned Christians to live and work successfully in other cultures.
- Equip international students for leadership and ministry roles in their own or other cultures.
- Enable teachers to effectively work in crosscultural or multicultural contexts.
AIM provides the following programs:

Department of Applied Linguistics and TESOL (ALT)
The mission of the M.A. in Applied Linguistics program is to enable students to acquire basic and advanced analytic skills in linguistics, to educate them broadly in applied linguistics and its relation to other disciplines and to provide them with culturally appropriate applied training in several specific sub-fields so that they can function successfully as Christian professionals in a variety of settings. The mission of the M.A. in TESOL program is to educate students to be highly competent Christian professionals, whose teaching, testing and program development for (primarily) adults covers all skill areas at all levels of English as a second or foreign language, in a wide variety of settings and is characterized by contextual sensitivity and cultural appropriateness.
